Thunder Bay DYU

View spaceSend a message
Location:
A lot of these don't apply to an organization lol. Age, gender, etc. The DYU stands for Deanery Youth Unit. The Thunder Bay Deanery goes from Thunder Bay and up the North Shore as far as Manitouwadge. Any Anglican youth over the age of 13 is part of the DYU and we meet regularly to plan events and fundraisers in the Anglican church. All five Deaneries in the Diocese of Algoma meet once a year at Camp Manitou for a Youth Synod.

(4) Carnival

Feb 22-23

West Thunder Bay is holding a carnival for their big Ramesh fundraiser; Ramesh will be their “Ring Master”

We are keen to either show up or help in some sort or capacity.

This is going to be a wild amount of fun and we are all encouraged to SHOW UP AND HAVE A HOOT!

(3) Ramesh

He’s a delight.

General consensus is that the parishes are not talking about the campaign. Not the greatest information to hear, but this is going to “fuel our fire”

We need to get across that this is not a youth driven activity and that this is an ALL AGES campaign! Just because we are pushing it doesn’t mean that it’s only us that need to be taking part.

Awareness is just as important as the cash.

We need support if we are going to pull off anymore fundraisers.

TWO POSSIBLE IDEAS FOR FUNDRAISING:

1.      Dinner/Dance

2.      Bike Rally

Quick Discussion on thought on both:

Dinner Dance:

·        SSM puts on a dinner/dance, however they don’t make a lot of cash. There is a ton of work that everyone needs to pull through with. A committee needs to be put together and dedication needs to be obvious with the DYU.

·        Dinner idea is dropped, decided to have desserts and refreshments instead.

·        Committee:

            John, Maranda, Leanne ect. EVERYONE

Will meet at a separate time.

(1) Executive

** General Idea**

Chair Noms: Sarah, Danielle

Vice Noms:  Cora, Jake

Election cancelled, going to share the positions.

Exec members:

CHAIR: Sarah, Danielle

VICE CHAIR: Cora, Jake

SECRETARY: Maranda

COMMUNICATIONS: John, perhaps Vicki -- double check with her, as she is not here.

Discussion:

Good Idea

Communications: maybe two people; update the old page and the facebook  page so that EVERYONE has access and those on facebook

Next step: looking to go through with elections/committee building

Retreat

(roughly: May Long)

·        Where?

·        Theme?

·        SSM coming?

Meeting, for those taking a serious look at it.
Matty will chair the committee for the retreat; meeting will commence at a different time.

Church Hopping:

St. John’s

St. Paul’s

Have not been done in a long time.

Seems that we’re interested in doing it, just not the first Sunday of every month.

Closing:

Lord’s prayer

DYU COFFEE HOUSE

Coffeehouse!

A great night of fun, friends and fellowship

St. Thomas' Anglican Church

Tuesday, December 18th

7:00pm - 9:00pm

This year, we're taking a different approach with our events.

I would like to assume that most of you know about Ramesh Ferris and his quest to HAND CYCLE across Canada, bringing awareness of Polio out there, and hopefully raising some cash along the way as well!

Because Ramesh has some serious ties to us in Thunder Bay, (yes, he may be the Bishop's son, but he also has some great friends in the city and also attended Confederation College where her served as Student Body Pres. for a while!)
we have decided to take some of the annual events and give Ramesh the proceeds.
Great idea right? Right!

So here it is, our first even is upon us!
We are going to be hosting a coffeehouse at St. Thomas' church and I think we should see your bright and smiling face there!

Here's the 411:
